Bookkeeping & BAS FAQs for Small Businesses in Perth
What does a bookkeeper do?
A bookkeeper does more than just enter numbers — we’re a strategic partner who can spot what’s really happening in your business before anyone else does. I help keep your finances organised, accurate, and up to date by recording and reconciling transactions, tracking receipts and expenses, and preparing clear reports that turn your numbers into clarity and confidence.
Beyond the day-to-day, I help streamline your systems, improve the way you work, and free up your time and energy — so you can focus on growing and thriving, not drowning in paperwork. With a bookkeeper by your side, you’ll always know where your business stands and where it can go next.
What’s the difference between a bookkeeper and an accountant?
A bookkeeper takes care of the day-to-day recording, organising, and reconciling of your financial information. We make sure everything is entered accurately and that nothing claimable slips through the cracks. An accountant then uses this up-to-date data to give you tax advice, lodge your end-of-year returns, and help with bigger-picture financial planning. I work alongside your accountant so you get the best of both worlds.
Can you lodge my BAS?
Yes — I prepare and lodge BAS under the supervision of a registered BAS agent, so you can feel confident your lodgements are accurate and compliant.
What does 'under supervision' mean?
In Australia, bookkeepers who want to become registered BAS Agents must complete a minimum number of hours lodging BAS under the supervision of an already registered BAS Agent — this is a Tax Practitioners Board (TPB) requirement to ensure every BAS Agent has real-world experience before they can apply independently.
While I already have the skills and qualifications to do the work, lodging your BAS under supervision helps me meet this official experience requirement — with the added benefit that you get an extra layer of quality assurance if needed. It doesn’t change how I deliver your work day-to-day — it’s simply part of meeting Australian industry standards for full BAS Agent registration.
How do you work remotely?
Everything I do is 100% remote. We’ll use secure cloud-based tools to share documents and files, and we’ll stay in touch by email, phone calls or video calls. I can work with whichever software you already use (or help you set something up if you’re starting from scratch).

If you’re local and prefer to meet face to face at the start, I’m happy to make that happen too.
Working remotely means you don’t need to worry about office space or in-person catch-ups — I have secure systems in place so you can easily upload receipts and documents anytime.
What bookkeeping software do you use?
I’m a certified Xero Advisor, and I work a lot with Xero - but if you use another system, just let me know. I’m happy to work with what suits your business best.
How much does a bookkeeper cost?
Costs vary depending on what you need — whether that’s a once-off tidy-up, regular monthly bookkeeping, or flexible admin support blocks. After our free consultation, I’ll provide a clear quote with no hidden surprises.
What industries do you work with?
I help all sorts of small businesses — from sole traders and freelancers to trades and service-based businesses. I especially love working with time-poor owners who just want to cut the admin and get back to doing what they love (instead of reconciling their books at midnight!). If you’re not sure whether I’m the right fit, just get in touch and we’ll chat it through.
How do I get started?
It’s easy — just fill out my contact form and I’ll be in touch to arrange a free, no obligation, 30-minute call. We’ll chat about what you need, how I can help, and what the next steps look like.
Still have questions?
